BIRDSVILLE, INNAMINCKA, LAKE EYRE AND THE CHANNEL COUNTRY AIRTOUR  2012

2011 was a bumper year. There was flooding in the Diamantina & Georgina Rivers, and in Cooper and Eyre Creek. Both the Warburton Creek and Cooper Creek flowed into Lake Eyre, with the Punt again ferrying vehicles across the Cooper on the Birdsville Track.

This year has begun with promising rain in the catchments of the Diamantina and Georgina Rivers and Cooper Creek. As of the start of April, the lead water Warburton Creek has not yet reached Lake Eyre, but the Cooper Creek below Windorah, the Diamantina River at Birdsville and Goyder Lagoon are a sight to behold. And wet or dry, Lake Eyre is  magnificent. And after three years straight, this may be the last time for a decade to see the desert bloom and the rivers run.
